A Day in NYC
Hi guys! Reporting here from warm, cozy home. <3
Today, Ping and I spent most of our day in New York City! Twas cold but fun, and I even got to guide us around and not get lost! It was taking us a long time to plan out our day yesterday into this morning, so we figured we'd go on Friday, but then we found out it's supposed to rain and snow, and, well...who wants to be there on New Years' Eve? I know I don't... >>;;
Did you guys know there's a Museum of Sex in NYC? We went there for an hour or two, and while some stuff was giggle-worthy (including a couple of touchable silicone RealDoll..ehem...parts), it was actually really eye-opening and inspired me to look at sex in all sorts of new lights. There were old erotic pictures back from the early 1900's, and exhibits that had me thinking about how prominent and open sexuality is these days, compared to how taboo (and even sinful) it was in the past. On a deeper level, there really was a lot that was interesting to read about and see, and I wouldn't mind going back in the future (especially since there's a condom exhibit debuting in February, and I can't help but be curious, haha). I only got a picture of the outside of the museum, sadly, haha! But I get the feeling that other pictures wouldn't be too appropriate for my blog anyway, so yeh. The gift shop had wiener-shaped pasta; I laughed.
We also went to the Pearl River Mart near Canal Street, which has two floors of Asian merchandise *_* Cookware up the wazoo, all sorts of novelties, snacks and food, a tea room, fabric, clothes, and silly toys! I got a dumpling maker, a sushi mold (perhaps this will make life easier, XD), two bento boxes, and a carp windsock (so glad I found these! I've been looking for one). Lots of neat stuff, and so easy to spend a ton of time in there, haha.
Ping's feet were bothering him for much of the day, so we also went to Payless, where he got a new pair of shoes to walk around with for the remainder of the evening. I ended up accidentally finding the Scholastic store (which made me squee, being an Early Childhood Education major and all; I got a couple of free brochures while I was there). They had a Magic School Bus display!! LET ME SHOW YOU!!
We also went to Rockefeller Center, where I hit up the Nintendo Store and scored this wicked cute Lapras Pokedoll! CUUUUUUTE!!! I couldn't put it down, despite many self-protests ("What are you going to do with it? Nothing, I tells ya!"). It was a madhouse in there x_x
But I broke out into the cold night air and towards the Rockefeller Christmas Tree--a gorgeous sight to behold, surrounded by swarms of inattentive and rude people ^-^
I also finally got the shot I had been waiting to take for years:
After that, Ping and I were running on empty and searched for some Japanese cuisine; after much walking, we ended back at Men Kui Tei, a hole-in-the-wall type restaurant on W. 56th Street with the most fantastic ramen I've ever had *_* We've eaten there before with friends, but I can't tell you how nice it was to sit down in a warm restaurant with such flavorful, hearty, warm noodles and a medley of tasty meats and veggies ^__^ (The mushrooms were SO GOOD!) I also had an ume onigiri that was super delicious...and what's weird is I finished my ENTIRE bowl, which was gigantic, AND the onigiri! It was insane! And I wasn't even completely full...usually my stomach shrinks if I go that long without food x_x
(Ping doesn't know it yet, but he's about to be conquered.)
All in all, it was a great day and I'm glad that we were able to still do so much despite getting out the door so late. Now my eyelids are getting heavy, haha..time for bed! I'm hoping an artsy update will be soon to follow, once I actually get some ideas x_x

haha! what a fun post! I've been to the Museum of Sex before. Actually,my old office used to be around the corner! haha! Did you see the homemade sex machine book? It was like of Rube Goldberg sorts where everyday machines like toasters and blenders would activate homemade stimulation toys. So strange and oddly fascinating!
hey now! there are many uses for that Lapras doll, like looking cute and keeping company! Not an ill-made purchase at all. lol I approve!
I'm glad you got to see the tree. its such a new york thing to do, even if there are rude people there... I guess its part of the charm :P. Not sure if you saw the costume people there too... sometimes batman, spiderman, and spongebob hang around so you can take pictures with them by the tree XD
lol no way! No, I didn't see that! I want to go back, though, haha. It was a lot more interesting and enlightening than I thought it would be. Hard to talk about with Ping though, hehe.
Right now, the Lapras is guarding my Christmas tree! (Still haven't put it away >.<) I love the Rockefeller Tree so much! Ever since I saw Home Alone 2, I wanted to see it in person, hehe.
Heehee!! I saw a costumed Hello Kitty and Minnie and Mickey Mouse during the day XDD It was so random! Do you have to pay to take pictures with them or do they just enjoy dressing up? X3
